An ANCO locknut is a hex nut with a ratchet pin running through the nut. It can also be recognizable for the manufacturing identification mark of a small slot cut into the side.

The ANCO locknut's ratchet pin bites into the bolt threads and provides extra grip. The locknut is self-locking and can be added or removed with a normal wrench.

ANCO locknuts are used whenever vibration is a factor in potential loosening, such as buildings, bridges, radio transmission towers, railway cars and automobiles.

Steel grade A-B-C, brass, bronze, aluminum alloys and stainless steel are all used in manufacturing ANCO locknuts, with the nut's ratchet pin constructed of stainless steel
